Brandon Zanotti
State’s Attorney
Brandon Zanotti was born and raised in Southern Illinois, growing up and still residing in Johnston City, Illinois. After graduating as class Valedictorian from Johnston City High School, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. Brandon earned his Juris Doctoris degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. Brandon also served in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C. as a congressional legal clerk to Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois. Following law school, Brandon was a trial attorney with one of the largest law firms in Southern Illinois, Feirich/Mager/Green Ryan in Carbondale. In 2012, Brandon was appointed by the Governor to serve as an administrative law judge over the state’s workers’ compensation cases. As a judge, Brandon heard and decided on over 150 cases. In September 2014, Brandon was chosen by long-serving State’s Attorney Charles “Chuck” Garnati to fill the remaining two years of his term. Since that time, Brandon has continued many of the successful traditions started by Mr. Garnati, including running one of the best “bad checks” programs in the state, but also started the office in new directions as well, such as building better relationships with law enforcement by holding regular meetings and seminars with countywide police officers to discuss updates in the law and new criminal behavior trends. Brandon takes an active role in managing a legal staff of eight attorneys, and a support staff made up of Laborers’ Local 773 members. In addition to overseeing and managing all criminal cases in the county, Brandon personally prosecutes all of the murder cases, as well as takes an active trial role in kidnapping, child abuse, and embezzlement cases. Brandon resides in rural Johnston City with his wife Katie.
